This will be the second year that I have had my students read Neil Shubin's Your Inner Fish as an introduction to AP Biology. Many AP Biology teachers across the U.S. feel that this is an excellent book that relates to many of the topics and themes that we will discuss throughout the year. Based on last year's feedback about the book, I am also confident that you will enjoy Mr. Shubin's writing style... Although there are some complex topics discussed, the author writes about them in a way so that you do not need to have a biology degree to understand what he is trying to say.
My expectations are that you read and blog about one chapter every week. I will expect to see a post from everybody about chapter 1 by Saturday, June 26th. In your post, I expect you to comment on other peoples posts as well as let us know what you found interesting about the chapter. I do not expect you to write long posts but I do expect consistency. I will be keeping track of your posts using Excel and this will count as your first grade for the class.
I too will be looking forward to blogging with you and getting to know everybody's personalities through their posts. I will also be rereading the book as well and will post myself occasionally but I want this to be more of a student centered community where you interact with each other to get the most out of this fantastic book. Enjoy!
Mr. Tisor, I totally agree with you on Shubin's writing style, it is very easy to understand. I am sure he discusses very complex topics but I understand it well! But yet again its only Chapter one. I look forward to reading the rest of the chapters!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Shubin's writing style like you said we would, well at least in chapter 1. But so far this book is interesting and I am actually looking forward to reading more of this book.
