chapter seven
This chapter turned my view of the book back around. The fact that Shubin did all of that research on embryos involving the dyes, and watching them come together and spontaneously form is amazing. The fact that our cells know how to assemble themselves form basically nothing shows how entirely complex cells are. Also, the fact that sponges are able to rebuild themselves from their most basic cells is very exciting (even though sponges can be considered very basic). Also the theory of bodyless creatures existing 4 billion years ago was interesting; but even more so since at first, the fossils weren't even considered that important. The fact that the boom in oxygen all of a sudden changed things was really mysterious. How did all of the life sustaining oxygen even show up? Hmmmm...I may never know.

Danielle! I also found the idea of sponges rebuilding themselves fasinating! I was like WOW! Sponges, which are soo basic and ordinary can do something soo difficult and complex as building themselves over again! And you do make a good point about how all that oxygen showed up. lol. But wherever it came from I'm happy it came because oxygen is the most important factor in our life :)
