Chapter Siete - Tu Inner Pescado

To be honest, the only parts that were interesting to me in this chapter was the tie-dying cartilage, bone, and tissue and the end, where he said that bodies only came about in the world for specific purposes such as to not get eaten or to eat other microbes. "Getting big is often a very good way to avoid being eaten. Bodies may have arisen as just that kind of defense" (136). Go bodies.
I always wondered why bodies didn't come about sooner, and why they only happened to start appearing in October rather than March or April (according to Shubin's calendar representation of the Earth forming). When he explained that it was because the Earth didn't have a sufficient enough supply of oxygen to support forming bodies at the time, that made complete sense to me and answered my question.
Thank you Shubin for answering the question that I have always been dying to know: How a blob and a body are similar. Because of their cells and whatnot. Also, I never knew that there were so many complicated named sponges and creatures before.
