Finished!
I'm definitely happy to have finished this book. Not only because I don't have to blog about it anymore, well that's mostly the reason, but because this was, at least I thought, the most critical chapter of the novel. Despite its length, this chapter didn't seem like it dragged on, because each sub-section of it was important to the overall understanding of the novel, and like Mr. Tisor pointed out, the big picture idea that Shubin stresses. This chapter tied in all of the previous ones to create that big picture that Shubin was trying to get across this whole time, and seemed to simplify the idea so it could be easily understood. At least that's what i got out of it. For me, the previous ten chapters (I think ten) were the in-depth and lengthy explanations of our bodies being the product of a history of descent with modification. These ideas and different subjects that have to do with our bodies before now were split up and seen as separate parts. All of them were focused on individually, which helped when Shubin gave an overview in the last chapter of all the little pieces of evolution that make up humans. I'm glad to be finished, and would be even happier if I didn't have English home work to look forward to for the rest of summer.
