Ch 4: teeth

This chapter has reminded me about how important the teeth function to help organisms. As Shubin pointed out the various jaw and teeth structures of different animals I was amazed at how different teeth allowed animals to eat different things. Flat teeth allowed animals to eat plants and sharp teeth allowed animals to eat meat. Wow! I am so grateful that humans have a combination of sharp and flat teeth so that we could eat almost anything (edible things). Shubin has shown that finding fossil bones is not easy and that he started out as a "noob" as he many times came back empty-handed from his digs. However, with the help of his friend Chuck he was able to succeed in finding fossil bones easily and this inspired me a lot to try hard in whatever I pursue in life. What really amazed me was when Bill found thousands of fossil bones stuck inside rocks in a corner when those guys were trapped around a bend in the basalt cliffs. Very lucky of Bill to find these fossil bones. This reminded me of the cliche "expect the unexpected" and compels me to be on the alert because you never know what you can discover. What I find disturbing was the development of teeth and visible organs such as scales, feathers, and breasts. All these visible body parts were made by layers of tissue folding and secreting protein. That's gross. Hmm I wonder if this same process applies on obese people with overlapping fat. Sorry I had to say that haha.
