CHP 5

When Shubin started to discuss about the brain I started to think this was going to be a complicated and uninteresting chapter to read, but I was proven wrong. This chapter was surprisingly interesting to me. It was amazing how the author can relate humans to basically any living organisms, even worms. We are all similar in some shape or form. The rods and plates in our brain was something interesting to learn and how it is formed in the earliest form of an embryo. A shark embryo and a human embryo have very unique and similar arches but different functions depending on the arches. I felt like this was the most educational chapters I have heard so far, learning about the brain, skulls, arches, and many other functions that relate to one of the small aspects of our bodies. It is also pretty strange how we can relate to many organisms from the inside organs. Even, worms from million years ago have slits relating to the shark and relating to us, even though the worms do not have brains and a softer skin than the shark and the human. Overall, this chapter was enjoyable to read and learn about new things, once again the pictures played a crucial role of explaining what Mr. Shubin was trying to tell us.
