Chapter 1 had some good pictures, chapter 2 had some good pictures, chapter 3 had some good pictures, and chapter 4 had some good pictures. Guess what chapter 5 had? SOME GOOD PICTURES (feel free to disagree or agree if you want to, I don't find every single picture appealing, but I am able to find at least 1 picture appealing for every chapter so far). Also chapter 5 was not that hard to understand either for some reason. I learned a lot about the origins of my head and about its development in the womb. It was interesting to learn that our cranial nerves were found in sharks. The picture on page 92 with the side by side comparison of the shark head to the human helps illustrate to his reader that our head may be related to a shark's head. I also found it very interesting that our heads may have been originated from headless ancestors (worms). Other than that, everything else was also easy to understand like how the different arches are responsible for developing different bones, nerves, muscles, and arteries in our head.

I agree with you about the picture Shubin demonstrates on page 92! It's quite interesting how similar the human head is to a shark's head! And just the pictures he demonstrates in general. Normally, it seems as if authors put pictures just to add some excitement to their novels, but in Shubin's case, it really makes the reader feel that he put in a great effort to help the reader understand what he's trying to say, as well as picking out the PERFECT pictures to illustrate his points.
