Dentistry 101? Chapter 4
I was surprised to find, like most people have mentioned, that I actually knew the basis to this chapter. The one scientist who said that he could build an entire skeleton from a single tooth must have been exaggerating although that did catch my eye (60-61). This chapter was definitely less repulsive and inhumane than the previous one and quite intriguing. I understood that reptiles, unlike humans, reproduce sets of teeth throughout their lifetimes but little did I know that those teeth would last over millions of years and enable paleontologists to analyze old species and their evolution. Within the last few pages, the relationship between feathers, breasts, teeth, and hair and development of skin/organs amazed me. How scientists believe that teeth were the purpose of other bodily figures such as scales and feathers is confusing and unbelievable. I found this chapter fascinating like many others and truly want to read on.
