It's pretty ironic how the fourth chapter of this book is about teeth because I actually went to the dentist today.
The whole idea of teeth being important to us was no question. The daily use of using them to eat, i.e. chewing our food, make it even more obvious of the importance of our teeth. But, all in all, I think we take our teeth for granted. When Shubin stated the fact our teeth keep their figure when we use them, it actually surprised me. The little details such as that didnt even occur to me as significant. And when I read about the ability paleontologists have when using just the teeth as their guide only solidifies the importance of details in our body. Just like the previous chapter set up when Shubin talked about the DNA and the major difference one change can make in the structure can change the entire species entirely.
I'm starting to see the patterns in the placement of the chapters in Shubin's book. It builds on top of each other, which just makes it all the better to understand the end of the book.
