From this chapter, as Courtney said, i am starting to feel a connection between my pet fishes (that's right i do own other pets other than my rabbits, who are AWESOME) from the fact that the Tikaalik had developing arms. To think that millions of years ago they might be able to shake hands with me shocks me. It shows how related to fish we really all.The fact that the Tikaalik was the only fish that Shubin saw and found with an actually developing arm just proves how it can be our ancestor. That it was a cross between a fin and an arm, truly shows how it is the first fish to develop an arm. The picture of the arm-fin Shubin showed accomplishes just how it is a hybrid of an arm and fin. To think that if we went back it time, we could actually do push-ups with it is amazing. Although this chapter was a bit slower as many had said, i think Shubin has caused us to see that without this fish-amphibian trying to move in a muddy pond, we may have never had hands at all! This chapter really makes us as humans see the value of our hands and arms since we can do such amazing things with it. We can do so many skills just because we have hands (write, text, play video games, and even type for this blog) that many other organisms cannot do. However, I cannot truly appreciate our hands because for all those who know me, my handwriting sucks (not even worthy of a kindergartners) so i cannot feel that special bond between me and my hand.
