The author is really amazing at opening hooks. The first couple of pages in the chapter grab you and make you want to continue reading while making you think of something not very often thought about or appreciated: your hands. The image of dissecting the cadaver sticks in your brain practically begging you to sign up for MED school that very second. It makes you not only realize how important that bodily extension is, but also makes you wonder on how it would be with out it, how similar it is to other species and the previous uses of this body part.
This chapter portrayed an interesting view on the origin of hands and the idea of one bone two bones and then blobs. The pictures used to show the fins verses the hands and one another helps add a visual to something that maybe hard to imagine. This chapter definately had its ups and downs it went from super interesting to stuff that was rather unappealing but honestly this author does a much better job entertaining the reader than most other scientific authors.
