In the beginning, I liked how Shubin explained how DNA works in different parts of an organism's body. He said that "when a gene is turned on, it makes a protein that can affect what the cell looks like and how it behaves" (Shubin 46). This gave me a clearer picture as to how DNA works to form the millions of cells that make us up. The idea of removing tissue and transplanting them somewhere else somewhat helped me visualize the importance of the ZPA, however sickening it was to me.
I enjoyed discovering how the Sonic Hedgehog gene works: it is active on both sides to make them function differently. Without the Sonic Hedgehog, we could literally be "all thumbs." Shubin's explanation of the Sonic Hedgehog gene being activated in different ways to accommodate evolution is very interesting, but I have yet to believe its truth. Although I do not believe in evolution, I am trying to keep an intellectually open mind while reading this.

Why don't you believe in evolution??? Science has proved it! haha. I don't mean to come across as rude, so I'm sorry if I did.
