This chapter started off....well weired. Before I read it, I had no idea what a mermaid purse was, let alone, its significance. But all of the DNA studies on chickens and skates were interesting. The fact that people spent time trying to mutate chickens by changing their wings, while still in the embryotic state, is astounding. They didn't have a lot of chicken to work with, eggs aren't really that large, and the scientists still figured out the magic of ZPA and the sonic hedgehog. How sharks came back to relate to this was well....still weired. Sharks don't even have bones, so it was interesting to know they were even effected by the sonic hedgehog gene, especially one from a mammal! The fact that sonic hedgehog gives many different animals human-like hands is crazy! Well sonic hedgehog itself is crazy, and interesting. This book continues to amaze me with all of its knowledge, and weird new facts that..well relate us to fish. But it does help me to remember: fish are friends, not food.
