"I'm stuck to you like glue somehow"
Throughout this chapter, Shubin focuses on how bodies hold their form all together and when bodies started to appear on Earth. And as I read through the chapter I was able to learn the foundation for all living organisms such as cells and bones.
All living things are made of clumps of cells and the skeleton or bones, well for the main part it is.The cells and the tissues of a human being are always changing and for some reason we still remain the same as life goes on, speaking about the way the body works and functions. Just as the tissues change but at the same time stay the same, exact process for cells. Another amazing thing is that our organs, tissues, and cells exactly know where they need to be and what they need to do. It made me think as if everything that goes on in our body also has a mind of its own.
Cells can communicate with cells by sending a series of molecules. I found this to be interesting. I thought cells would stick to each other once they bumped into each other or something like that. But no, the cells interact as if they are people too. There's "talking" and it all depends on another cell's response to the molecules.
Another thing made my mind click as I was reading Shubin's words. It did make sense that maybe actual bodies did not start to appear on the face of the Earth due to the lack of oxygen in the atmosphere. And everyone knows oxygen is a basic necessity for life.
