Sorry I posted this blog a day late I was busy all week and lost track of the time. I as read this chapter I thought haven’t I heard this all ready? Then I read Danielle’s blog and I have to agree with her; Shubin is getting repetitive. He’s always comparing us to animals even if it’s just a small similarity. The fact that a lot of animal looked like humans as embryos was intriguing. Although it was intriguing, it wasn’t something that really surprised me. I had already knew that human embryos start off looking small and alien-like because it hasn’t developed much yet, so shouldn’t it be similar to how animal embryos look like? The three germ layers and the tube-within-a-tube concepts kind of confused me. But as expected, Shubin’s style of writing really helped me understand better as I reread the sentences. Of course the diagrams should receive some credit for helping me imagine and understand it better. He also got me thinking about how amazing it is that humans and other animals are very symmetrical with a front/back, top/bottom and left/right. I do feel sorry for Mangold since she died without receiving the Nobel Prize that she deserved. L
