The title “Your Inner Fish”, by Neil Shubin’s, actually intrigued me into picking up a copy of the book and had me question, what is my inner fish? Chapter one is all about finding your inner fish. I thought it was amazing how dedicated Shubin is to his work. He spent many years in the Arctic searching for fossils, and used rocks to prevent his tent from flying away in the fifty miles an hour wind. (Which I found ironic because he’s a paleontologist). Also, as a devoted paleontologists he was determined and succeeded in finding Tikaalik. I thought it was very interesting that he found the link between a fish and a primitive land living animal. He must have felt so overwhelmed by this discovery, because if I had dedicated my entire life to something and finally I reached my goal, I too would be proud, and probably write a book as well. Lastly, the similarities between a fishes fin and the human arm made dive deeper into the book knowing that we have science that proves our ancestors may have been a mere fishes. I will definitely look forward to reading the next few chapters, and following Shubin’s incredible journey.
