chapter 4 teeth everywhere

to be honest about this whole book in general i dont see the point in having to read it if we dont believe in this theory, but i have been going along with it. before i started reading this chapter i saw that there were 20 pages that i had to read. my mouth dropped. it was kind of funny at the time. teeth is the main topic of this chapter and the first thing i did was count how many i have in my mouth. i know its kind of corny but i thought it would be fun. Shubin says the job of teeth is to make bigger creatures into little ones. he goes on to say that mouths are only so big and teeth are used to allow creatures to eat things that are bigger then them. another thing that i found interesting was that the ridges of teeth reflect the diet of an animal. teeth are the hardest part of our bodies. our mammalian way of chewing emerges in the fossil record from around the world that ranges from 225-195 million years ago. the Morganucodon and Eozostrodon were rodent creatures from 200 million years ago.his excavation showed that early mammles were small with teeth no more then 2 millimeters long.another thing i learned was a way to find out if its a lizard. if the teeth have only a single root its a lizard because mammels have many.incisors in the front became specialized to cut food, canines further back to puncture it, and molars in the extreme back to shear or mash it. this is just like our mouths. enamel is what makes the teeth hard and give it the shinny coat.
