This chapter was one of the longest ive read so far but its also been full of information on one of our least talked about body parts; our teeth.I learned many things about our teeth and how they have different uses depending on the animal that you are talking about. The teeth of a fossil can already tell you what that animal's diet consisted off because their teeth are made for chewing and eating that kind of food. It was also an interesting fact that as mammals, our teeth will grow back only once in our lifetime but other animals such as reptiles will always continue to regrow their teeth as long as the live because of wear and tear. Its also interesting to know that its because of the teeth that smaller animals like fish could chew on bigger animals and be able to feed that way.
It was also interesting how Shubin started off not knowing anything about how to find fossils. He could look at the same patch of ground that his friend Chuck was looking at and see absolutely nothing spectacular about it, but Chuck could see fossils right through the ground. It must've took alot of time for him to pick up the ability that Chuck had before him and to apply it to his own findings.
