Chapther three was the most appealing among all three chapters I've read so far. I suppose it's becuase DNA is a familiar subject to me comparing to fossils and bone structures.
Shubin mentioned that our hundreds of different kinds of cells contain exactly the same DNA. It reminded me of DNA probing that can be conducted even with just a strand of hair. Therefore, Shubin's explanation about DNA proved how the DNA probing with trivial parts of a body can be possible. And when I learned that what controls the formation of hands is mere two little patches of tissue, it seemed like there should be high possibility to be born with disabilities.
However, there are more people with sound body than the disabled, so I thought that living in a human form is a marvel itself. Also, watching the continued process of connecting humans with other animals such as mice, sharks, and flies, I questioned why Shubin was involving other species even though his whole point is that human is evolved from fish. After thinking, I concluded that Shubin might want to suggest that every organism had gone through evolution and they have one same root which is fish.
