chapter 3
This chapter went into depth on the process of finding a relationship of livinging things through genes. I found it interesting that the sonic gene is found in so many different animals and is so vidal to our development, however i found the experiments disturbing. As Jennifer mentioned the relation to Frankenstein, I found myself thinking of him the whole time. The scientists were breeding mutants to find out more about evolution, but the affect it has on the animals was much to distracting for me to focus on the knowlegde gained. I mean they even said since they couldnt expirement on humans they used animals, but if it would be inhumain to experiment on humans why is it ok on animals. I'm no animal rights activist, but the image of little chicks with mutated wings just disturbed me and made me resentful toward the scientist and the work they were doing. This was an interesting look into our relationship with other creatures, but I would have liked to avoid learning about how they got the data.

I agree with you. I found it disturbing that these people were experimenting on embryos of animals. I know they just wanted to find the answer to their questions through these experiments, but I kept thinking about the poor animals and how they would live with those mutations. I am not an animal rights activist either.
