This chapter was all about teeth! It was very interesting to learn about the similarities we had to fish once again in this chapter. Shubin also related to how finding his first fossil was related to teeth. His stories about fossil finding make it seem very interesting, despite my view of a boring job as a paleontologist. What also surprised me was that teeth, breasts, feathers, and hair all develop from the interactions between layers of skin. While I was reading that I just literally said out loud, "Whaaaaaaaaat?!!" with a puzzled expression on my face. I know that you can't just rub yourself against another person and a tooth will grow out but still, that's pretty cool. It also mentioned a classic ancient fish called ostracoderm. I love that fish hahah! It has a cool skull and I always wanted to knock on that thing. This chapter yet again taught me that not only teeth show an animal's lifesyle, it is one of the best preserved things you can find in rock. So next time I go to the dentist, I will appreciate the visit because I love my teeth that much more. :)
