A visit from the tooth fairy...

As a child, I believed in the wonderful lie of the the tooth fairy. The tooth fairy took away my teeth in exchange for money. If I knew how important those teeth were, I would have never exchanged those teeth for money. Chapter 4 made me realize that teeth play an important role in life. Just by looking at a tooth, some scientists can even determine the exact characteristics of a creature. As I was reading about the amazing strength of teeth to endure strenouse amounts of pressure, I felt bewildered because teeth can withstand tremendous amounts of pressure but decay and rot because of the effects of sugar and plaque (the reason why my mother monitored my candy-consumption as a child). Chapter 4 glorifies the endurance of teeth but in my opinion, teeth are vulnerable, even if it can bite, cleave, and mince.
Chapter 4 may not have been the most intriguing chapter but it was the chapter that readers could emphatize with Shubin the most. The audience can understand Shubin's frustration and disappointment resulting from failure to find his fossils. Although I am not a scientist looking for fossils, I can still understand the feelings of inadequacy that Shubin felt as he watched his colleagues/friends find bags of fossils while he found none. Then, when Shubin found his fossil, I felt proud of him. His perseverence finally paid off. I was inspired by Shubin, whom I never expected inspiration from.
