In the beginning, Shubin said " True, big fish tend to eat littler fish. But teeth can be the great equalizer(60)". I've always pictured big fish eating little fish but I never thought teeth can do the trick for the little fish. I always think of that picture (<---)! I don't know if you can see it, but the 3rd fish has only two teeth and its kind of ironic that a picture that is just a mere saying has the teeth theory. I never knew. Teeth are a big thing and I never really thought about it and Chapter four made me realize how cool teeth are.
It was SO funny how Shubin came back from his vacation and he was awarded. Its amazing how a fossil or a creature that once lived had teeth that were part of a mammal and a reptile. That shows how we really connect to animals and how we evolved. I also like how Shubin compares everything to us like his "hamburgers" remark. lol.
I learned new VOCAB! haha, I'm pretty excited to use the word enamel and lamprey(s).
Yeah, well anyway
Towards the end Shubin stated " We would never have scales, feathers, or breasts if we didn't have teeth in the first place (79)". Ohmygosh, that is SO fascinating.. I never knew that teeth played such a big role in life or in our bodies. I know how important they are for eating food but Shubin adds more to teeth.
I just love how Shubin sums up his chapters as he did for chapter four: "...our world are just variations on a theme(80)". :)
I love that line!
Good Post... I like the pic!
