The beginning of chapter 4 was really interesting. I enjoyed how Shubin described his experiences doing field work trying to find fossils. I enjoyed how he somewhat told us how to search for these fossils, the rules of doing field work, and some spots around the world where you an find fossils. However, it was boring to be reminded of the differences in teeth between mammals and reptiles. As I continued reading, I was amazed that he found the fossil of a creature that is half a mammal and half a reptile. Then, I became really confused when I began reading the section, "Teeth and Bones -- The Hard Stuff." I understood the beginning of the section, but soon became really confused after Shubin started speaking about "conodonts." Can someone care to explain this section? Then the next section, "Teeth, Glands, and Feathers," was really interesting as he began to break down the process of teeth being made and how it leads to the development of other organs such as hair and breasts.
