At first I looked at this chapter and said "wow a whole chapter about teeth...fun". However it wasn't as boring and fact recall as I thought it would be. Shubin showed me teeth are very important and how every task they accomplish is important in some way. I never really gave thought to my teeth being the way they are to be "remarkable" because they hold there figure when chewing. Shubin does a great job in making us look at the small details that make up the big picture. I like how Shubin always adds his humore and makes us compare and contrast to animals. Also I found it interesting that he describes how teeth are formed through two tissues as well.
Another intersting part in this chapter was definatley the part of his adventures in the desert looking for fossils. This sounded really cool and reading it made me wish I could also hunt for fossils. It was interesting reading about the skills they needed like patience and sharp eyes. I also liked examing the real photographs and the diagrams because they prove helpful when trying to grasp and understand Shubins novel
