chapter 7: Adventures in Bodybuilding

To start off the chapter I really liked how Shubin used the analogy of a brick house to explain how the embryos of animals develop. It is interesting that how cells align and communicate determines the way in which one develops and becomes unique. Another thought is to think how small we've been around for in comparison to the life span of the earth.... another mind-boggling thought (Shubin's good at those). The graph given in the book just shows how impressive the Earth's life has been and although life has only been around about 600 million years. I hadn't realized that cells in bones must have a special ability to stick together. And to be compared to a sponge... i'm not quite sure thats a compliment. hahaha....even microbes evolve and adapt :)) Well with all the abilities the microbes and cells were ready to develop and create anf by the looks of it ask they needed was oxygen.
