Chapter 6: The Best-Laid (body)

It was interesting to think that while developing we could look similar to that of a bird or fish. However, I do understand it..... I mean we have arms on our sides and legs below our stomach just like fish have smaller fins on their sides and a larger fin below their stomach ( I'm beginning to see the "inner fish" idea :)) And now I know about the germ layers and how those three layers develop into the same organs in various species. I love when Shubin says, " to fully appreciate the importance of this," because what he is explaining really is important and revolutionary in showing the common ground among the broad and unique spread species in the world. It is through development in embryos, the setting of genes, and the writing of DNA that we are different from a fish or bird. But it is those same things that create within us a similar set up and use. All in all the main concept of this chapter was stimulating and really backs up the idea of us having an "inner fish".
