Chapter 6

It is simply amazing how one tiny blob of cells seen through a microscope inside an embryo can grow into complex creatures such as birds. That first tiny group of cells will multiply to trillion of cells that are arranged in just the perfect way to create an organism. Von Baer's findings were amazing although he needed financial help from Christian Pander. With Pander's help, Von Baer discovered that all organs can be traced to 1 out of three 3 layers of tissue within the embryo. He compared what found in a chicken embryo to anything else he could find like fish, reptiles, and mammals. They all had the same layers as found in the chicken and they also grew into the same organs. This was important because we find that all organisms start off the same but later grow into totally different things.
