Handy Genes

It’s an amazing connection animals have, through this chapter we are brought through the discovery of a gene in DNA that makes the bone structure of our hands. This gene is also found in almost every animal discovered today. The gene is called the Sonic Hedgehog gene. This gene was found by scientists studying animals similar to humans. This gene was found by experiments done on flies, then chickens and eventually skates, connecting us closer to our inner fish. Through this connection we can see the possibility of Tiktaalik being a contributor to our genes and structure. Neil allows us to experience the journey he experienced and feel joy and excitement for the new facts he uncovered. He makes the reader question as he did and try to predict the outcome. He makes us eager to get closer to finding our inner fish.
