Chapter 3: Handy Genes

This chapter was by far the best of the three chapters that I had read. I grew up despising paleontology, and therefore, my perspective on the first two chapters were skewed. But this chapter had a completely different approach to the topic of evolution. Scientists used genetics and DNA.
Through genetic research, scientists found support of their hypotheses of evolution. Instead of scientific guessing, they test the DNA of many, such as sharks, skates, chickens, and humans to find a clear connection and relationship that is truly existent. This grabbed my attention more because it shows hard scientific evidence instead of assumption.
Chapter 3 was also a more interesting chapter because the effects of DNA experiments were explained and shown. These facts were amazing to me, because it showed that the simple addition or movements of particles could alter a hand all together. Experiments were done on sharks, skates, chickens, flies, and humans, and this shows the connection that we all have. Due to such experiments, the ZPA and Sonic Hedgehog was found in each of these animals. This is great evidence to add to the fact that we share the same DNA structure as other animals, and maybe even ancestors.
Overall, this chapter was the best, and I hope that I can say this for every chapter that I read.
