Chapter 3: Handy Genes
As I read chapter 3, I began to become really interested in genes and DNA, and how they work. I was suprised to learn how we can trace our history through the DNA of present animals. Shubin and his team opened my eyes when they stated how all the animals are connected and are similar no matter how different they are. I learned the similarity was ZPA (Zone of Polarizing activity). I found that it was really cool how Shubin and his team could manipulate the embryos by making formed limbs, just by adding vitamin A to activate the other ZPA. I just thought it was really neat to learn about animal genes just to learn about our own.
