chapter 4: Teeth Everywhere
This chapter was quite interesting just like the previous ones. I found it interesting when Shubin talked about his fossil expedition to Nova Scotia in search for fossils among the rock surface. I was interested because this past year I went geode hunting with my family and it's harder than it looks until you know where to look, almost like Shubin and the fossils. After many attempts digging in uncovered areas, just like in the reading, new ground holds the best treasures. Overall, it surprised me when it said that teeth were modified into different organs that lie within the skin like hair especially. I never would have thought that something so hard like teeth can be so similar to something so fragile like a person's hair. Without a doubt, his connection that "[...]the diverse inhabitants of our world are just variations on a theme"(80) isn't just a great connection, but it helps me understand how the body has come together over time. Everything is connected even though it might not be obvious, however I am sure Shubin will make many more connections in the chapters to come.
