Chapter 1- "Finding Your Inner Fish"

At first, I thought this book would be only about the structure and background of certain types of fish. I was mistaken when I learned that the author's purpose in writing this book is to inform readers about the shift from fish to land-living animals. Shubin's predictions and theories gave me a different perspective on life millions of years ago. It reflected concepts of evolution and allowed me to focus on the intricacies of fossils and how they define the formation of the human body.
As I was reading this chapter, many questions popped into my head. Why do certain geographic areas contain specific types of rocks and fossils? To what extent does serendipity play a role in Shubin's expeditions? In all, I was fascinated by Shubin's perseverance and moved by his passion in exploration. Even with treacherous obstacles, he and his friends overcame an onerous feat and opened the pathway to greater knowledge.
