ch 3
This chapter, "Handy Genes," focuses mainly on the idea of the Sonic hedgehog within different animals. As vitamin A is injected into the cells, the mirror-image fin that is created amazed me. Little factors such as the patch of tissue and the DNA in our cells determine the outcome of our pinky or our thumb. If the scientists succeed in discovering how to control this factor, it will open up another path in finding the relation between humans and fish. This makes me think again how all living creatures are related and how complicated they can be. Many people tend to think that living creatures just came to be. However, through experiments like these, it is clear that little factors like a patch at the end of a bone determines an animals appearance.
