Chapter 1: Finding Your Inner Fish

Even though my religion does not believe in evolution, I started my reading journey open-mindedly. I was very excited to read the book because I find topics on animals very interesting. When I started reading the book it felt like I was actually going through the process of Shubin's journey to find the fish. It felt like some kind of adventure and I could practically imagine the harsh conditions of place. This gave me a connection to the book and I wanted to read more.
When Shubin explained about how the fish had special fins that were the transition between land animals and water animals, it reminded me of fish today that have specialized fins (usually in the deep parts of the oceans) that are used as arms or hands. These fish can actually walk on the sea floor. As I watched the television program that showed these unusual fish, I had no idea how much they have in common with land animals like us. I began to wonder how present time fish had the same features that transitional fish had long time ago. I began to wonder if maybe those specific traits were passed down because it gave an advantage to the fish for them to survive. This book has been interesting so far and I hope to read more.
