Chapter 2: Getting a Grip
I found the second chapter of Your Inner Fish quite interesting comparing to the preceding chapter. I like how the whole chapter developed a distinct idea, in this case Owen’s idea of one bone-two bones-lotsa blobs-digits. Although all creatures have extreme different images and personalities, it was interesting to find that different creatures such as a frog and a human have exceptional similarities in their bone structure. What I also found interesting was the way the development of hands could be traced all the way from fish to present time-with fins turning into hands over the course of millions of years. Sir Charles Bell's idea that the structure of the hand was "perfect" caught my attention as well. This simple but useful part of the human body was enough for Bell to write a whole book about. It opened my eyes to see how every bit of the world, although ordinary, is significant and unique in its own way.
After reading this chapter the book has taken my attention and I’m anxious to read upcoming chapters and see what they’re about. :)
