Chapter 3: Handy Genes

Just from the look of the title I could tell I would like this chapter of the book compared to the first two chapters. I have always been really interested in genes since hearing about them freshman year in bio. Learning about DNA and how it plays such an important role in life.
Some things that stuck out to me in this chapter was reading about how certain genes could be altered and genetic codes could be changed and the end result would be totally different from such a minute change. What also stuck out to me was how Shubin explains that when a portion of ZPA tissue is moved, it causes fingers to be duplicated. Something else interesting was the "Sonic Hedgehog" gene. I found it really amusing that scientists would name a gene after an animal such as a hedgehog because of the bristles it has on its body. So far this is my favorite chapter.
