This chapter caught my eye because of the title "Handy Genes". I love learning about DNA, so I figured that I would enjoy this chapter. As Shubin explained about ZPA, my mind went wild. How could such a small, microscopic piece of ZPA have such a huge influence on the shape of my hand. I couldn't help but think how odd it would be if we had just a tiny bit more of ZPA in our hands.
Also, I always thought that scientific experiments were only done on rats, and mice, but I was surprised to learn that sharks and chickens were being used too! This leads me to wonder if maybe scientist will create a super animal. If scientist could potentially alter the DNA of an animal, I am awaiting what will come next for the human race. I think that this can be quite dangerous, but hopefully, it will be used to reproduce organs for cancer patients. I really enjoyed this chapter, and I hope that there are more to come that are more scientific than about fossils.
