Chapter FOUR
TEETH. Neil Shubin now explores the excavation sites by finding teeth. Teeth are basically the essentials of being an animal or a human. Teeth are essential for everything. Shubin thus starts exploring the sites with a thirst to find teeth. By finding the teeth, it will help uncover the mystery for his excavations everywhere he searches. The difference between him and the other paleontologists is that the other paleontologists can find the bones and teeth by the bucket loads. However, even being a professional paleontologist, it was hard for Shubin to find those fossils that he tried so hard to find. He even said that it was embarrassing that "Chuck" was able to find so many fossils, when he couldn't find any. Then one day, he finally found them, and once he identified one fossil, his eyes opened up to many more around him. His first important fossil in this chapter was when he went scavenging in the area of Nova Scotia. This was the most interesting part because what he found a disappointment, everyone else found as a huge success. Therefore, something can be learned in this chapter; not to give up or else all is lost.
