The first couple paragraphs of this chapter didn't interest me at all. I didn't want to read how his first dissection of the human body went and how he went about cutting into a cadaver and taking a look at his entrails. However, it was fascinating how it only takes a handful of bones in the arm / hand to allow us to do such a wide variety of activities in everyday life. The same bones found in a human arm can be found in many different types of organisms and also accomplish the same function. The reason that this also interests me is because it also means that we share a common ancestor from a very long time ago.
The part where Shubin talks about our hips and how much they have to do with how we walk.I thought walking only had to do with bones and muscles in your legs but now i know there is much more to it.
I look forward to reading more about the Tiktaalik and how it relates to us today.
