Chapter 2, Getting a Grip.
As I continued, Shubin amazed me once again. His experience of dissecting a human body was rather relaxing to him until he uncovered the hand. As he did, he was able to link so many thoughts together with such a simple action. Always being able to see my hands and use them as needed, I never thought of its significance. However, it turns out, hands of animals are "a visible connection between us; it is a signature for who we are and what we can attain" (Shubin 29). The structure of our limbs today and the ones of the remaining fossils show that there is an existing connection between us. The fact that he is able to think through these progresses through an experience in a lab is impressive and I greatly admire him for it.
