Chapter 2: Getting A Grip

In this chapter, I wasn't as intrigued as I was reading the first chapter. The author talks about his first human dissection and how he wasn't as prepared as he thought he was seeing a cadaver. The part that didn't fascinate me at all was when Shubin talks about Owen's "one bone, two bone, lotsa bone, and five toes". It just seemed so repetitive of him repeating the same thing.
Once Shubin started showing pictures of the different fins and how they correspond, I started to like the book a little bit more. The whole part where he talks about seeing the anatomy of a human hand was very interesting. He mentions that many years ago, an ancient fish was able to do a push-up. Nowadays that isn't possible but to know that a fish was capable of doing that many years ago is really fascinating. He also mentions that body structure of a fish and human aren't that different. The fish he discovered "Tiktaalik" has a structure unlike many other and hopefully in the next chapter we learn more and more about his fish. I can't wait to read Chapter 3! :)
